Arnie Deckwa never expected to be called "the Singing Salmon Man." Growing up in the tiny fishing community of Cornet Bay, Washington, his home was always filled with music. So Arnie went to Nashville, Tennnessee to try his hand as a country gospel singer. While he was there, he introduced some of his friends to his mother's home-smoked salmon. One friend told Arnie, "I know you want to sing, cowboy, but you need to do something with this."
Arnie was raised in a family of commercial fishermen, working alongside his father until he started running his own commercial boat at age 14, so food from the sea was what Arnie understood best. Soon, Arnie was making and selling a variety of smoked salmon dips in Nashville.
After launching the Cornet Bay Company with his smoked salmon dip, Arnie and his wife, Joanne, began developing other products, including a variety of sauces and seasoning blends. They have returned to Arnie's hometown of Cornet Bay. where they create recipes and develop new products to add to their expanding line.
Says Arnie, "A product is like a song. If you have a great one, it will rise to the top of the charts on its own and that's exactly what ours have done."
