Ginny King is a painter and fiber artist living and creating in Port Townsend, WA. Her expressions come in diverse manifestations – oil paintings, mixed media “portraits” on canvas, a wide variety of dolls, art cloth, visual journals, quilts, and garments. She has dyed and screen printed fiber for a 20 foot long residential wall in Woodside, CA and made “wearable art” since the 1960’s. Ginny’s dolls range from colorful felt crows complete with a cotton rider whooping it up to her recent achievement manifested in a 5’6” doll decked out as Granny in Church. Her dolls enjoy living worldwide from Switzerland to Guatemala to La Jolla. One lucky sock doll is currently traveling the world and snapshots arrive weekly via e-mail documenting the adventure. She always knew she wanted to be one of her dolls.
Since long, long ago, Ginny has been sewing. Taught by her Mom, Kathie, she still enjoys trading tips and projects with her mom including Show n’Tell on Skype. Ginny has been dyeing fabric since her years in the Geigy Chemical Company dye labs during the early 1970’s.
A small town gal, Ginny grew up in Blacksburg, Virginia near Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!) Later she lived in Westchester and Dutchess Counties, New York. From 1987 to 2004 she lived and worked as a paralegal in Palo Alto, Ca. Today, she works part time at Akamai Art & Glass Supply and spends every spare moment painting and creating in paradise: Port Townsend, WA, with her small dog, Digby.
